I took some 1/2" steel bar, heated it in a forge, bent it to shape, then hardened it. They should work well once they get welded to my frame. Expect a poorly put together picture how-to later. Basically I made my own version of this(except this guy had way too many washers and bolts that may not be graded).

I'm guessing these aren't the actual hooks on your car since you don't have mud tires and that would be some thick ass rebar.

No, This is just a picture I stole off the internet. I used 1/2" bar. That stuff looks excessively thick, my hooks would only be used if I get stuck in the snow again.

I would have made loops instead of hooks but it's obviously your truck. And you are totally right, those bolts look suspect.
